About the event
Khao Suppers is excited to present a special edition of our Khao Social: From Playground to Present, a joint supper club with Mahek Arora (@snack_with_mak), A Delhi-based creative who hosts supper clubs and curates creative events centring around food. Â
Childhood is a time of innocence and wonder, where the world feels boundless, each day filled with discovery. As we age, those carefree moments become cherished memories, often tinged with nostalgia. Ageing brings wisdom and perspective but also a sense of longing for the simplicity and purity of youth. The journey from childhood to old age is a delicate balance between holding onto the magic of the past and embracing the growth and changes that life inevitably brings.
Together, we have curated a menu that explores four key steps in ageing: Early childhood, Adolescence, Adulthood and Senescence. Through each course, we aim to evoke memories through flavours, textures and smells that evoke nostalgia and mirror the journey of our ever-evolving relationship with food, reflecting both our changing bodies and our growing appreciation for nourishment.Â
In youth, food is often about indulgence and energy, fueling our active lives with little thought to its long-term impact. With age, however, we begin to seek balance and health, recognising how what we eat affects our well-being. Meals become not just about sustenance, but about savouring flavours, honouring traditions, and nurturing our bodies in a way that supports longevity and vitality.Â
MENU
On Arrival
Masaladar Shikanji
A refreshing lemon soda.
Early Childhood by Mahek
Childhood is playful and colourful. We seek crispy textures and uncomplicated flavour.Â
Make-your-own chaat. A selection of crispy, soft and crunchy elements presented for you to create your own chaat.Â
Adolescence by Punam
As we move into our adolescent years, we crave snacks and often eat at any time of the day when we get hungry. We begin to experiment with more flavours, spices and textures.Â
Khichi. A savoury snack dish made of rice flour, these are steamed and served with a selection of chilli oils.Â
Adulthood by Punam
A time when our tastebuds are refined and we can enjoy complex flavours and spices. We know what we like and don't like.Â
Filled Karela or bitter gourd shaak, wholewheat rotli, and North-Indian Chana daal with loki or bitter gourd and rice. A simple thali-style dish, guests will also be served pickles and papad.Â
Senescence by Mahek
In our older age, softer textures are appreciated. Comfort food comes in the form of something familiar and filling. It is usually a dish you've enjoyed all your life, and nothing beats its simplicity.
Kheer or rice pudding with a little surprise, that hints at the memories and foods filled with childhood nostalgia.
Please note: the menu is fully vegetarian. We may be able to accommodate a plant-based diet. Please specify when booking your tickets. Due to the nature of the menu, it is not possible to cater for any serious allergies due to the preparation of the food in a small kitchen.Â
