About the event
‘(Don’t) Play With Your Food’

KHAO X SHOR: Still Life Supper Club
Growing up were you ever reprimanded for ‘playing with your food’. Whilst the responsible adult, the bearer of those words, may have had good intentions, we invite you to forget those for a moment and let your childish wonder return.
For years, artists have been ‘playing’ with food, creating simple and elaborate compositions to draw from life. These compositions have been crafted with care, considering attributes of visual balance and light but also imbued with hidden symbolic meanings. Join us to indulge in some reflective food play. Touch, smell, peel, cut, stack. Make your own still life to reflect a feeling, a memory or a desire.
The afternoon will begin with a collective reflection on food, memory and identity. You will then have a range of objects to choose from, including the ingredients used for the meal to build your arrangement. This will be followed by a drawing and painting session. We invite you to use your hands to create, to remember and to imagine.
The still life session, will be accompanied by a seasonal meal, specially crafted with handpicked ingredients and spices created by Punam of Khao Suppers. Born and raised in East London, through her supper clubs and pop ups, Punam has been sharing dishes inspired by her Gujarati and East African heritage, together with her love for Bombay street-food and regional and seasonal ingredients. Guests will be treated to a colourful menu highlighting seasonality with an abundance of flavour.
In the end, you’ll leave with a full belly, your very own still life painting and new connections and stories.
All materials included.
